Abstract

Trust based relations are discussed as essential (pre)condition with respect to information and knowledge exchange in innovation networks. Thus, the question about sources of trust building appears on the agenda. In this study different sources of trust building are introduced and exemplified. An empirical analysis - based on 23 German regional innovation networks - shows that “institutionalized trust” is found to be one of the most important sources of trust. Because referring to certain network qualities (bridging and bonding social capital) “institutionalized trust” is discussed in the context of network management.
